Wuhan Iron & Steel Group Minerals Co., Ltd ( WISCO Minerals), which headquartered in Wuhan, is
the largest wholly-owned subsidiary and a major base of raw materials of WISCO. It covers an area of
34 square kilometers, including nine subsidiaries
which situated in six cities of Hubei and Henan
Provinces with 21000 employees, i.e. Ezhou
Pellet Company, Daye Iron-ore Mining Company,
Chengchao Iron-ore Mining Company, Jinshandian
Iron-ore Mining Company, Lingxiang Iron-ore Mining
Company, Wulongquan Iron-ore Mining Company,
Jiaozuo Clay Mining Company and Enshi Iron-ore Mining Company. WISCO Mine is a brilliant pearl
inlaid on the vast land of Central China with talents and abundant resources.
After new China was founded, WISCO Mine,
as an auxiliary works and raw material base of
Wuhan Iron & Steel (Group) Corp, was setup and
grew along with the development of first complex
iron & steel company in China. On Sept 15, 1958,
Mao Zedong, Chairman of new China, inspected
WISCO Mine. WISCO Min became the only iron
mine that visited by chairman Mao in his lifetime.
Under the guideline of developing the mining
industry and comprehensive utilization, the
accumulative outputs of iron-ore, dolomite and
limestone mined by WISCO Mine were up to 200
million ton, 17 million tons and 46 million tons
respectively from 1958 to 2007, it was reputed as
"treasure land" of central China and a “grain
warehouse” of WISCO.
After entering the 21st century, WISCO Minerals still adheres to the strategy of “resources is the
priority” and try all efforts to establish three bases, i.e. strategic resources development bases , pellets
production base and flux production base. Some plants, such as 80,000t pellets plant in Daye,
1,200,000t pellets plant in Chengchao and 5,000,000t pellets plant in Ezhou, as well as light burning
limestone plant and active lime production lines in Wulongquan, were established. 2008 witnessed a
sales income of 9.2 billion yuan and a profit of 550 million yuan in WISCO Mine, and the indexes of
production, safety and profitability had reached the best level since WISCO Mine was founded 50 years ago.
In recent years, WISCO Mine has been trying
every effort to build a resources-economical and
environment-friendly “two-oriented” mine, so that
the first land reclamation base on mining area in
Asia, the first national mine park in China and an
iron-ore mining museum were established.
Huangshi National Mine Park of Daye Iron-ore
Mining Company has become a demonstration industrial tourist site with the same popularity as the
Three Gorges Project , it was also awarded a title of national advanced afforestation enterprise.
Guided by scientific view of development, WISCO Minerals keeps in step with the requirements of
3rd business pioneering and central & southwest development strategy of WISCO, and also closely
follows restructure policy of WISCO, state’s policy of energy saving and emission reduction as well as
development trends of the society. A “1234” strategic development pattern has been formed, i.e.
adhering to a strategy of “resources is the priority” , based on the construction of “two-oriented” mine, so
as to establish “three bases” and create “four top-grades”. After the phase II project of Ezhou Pellet Plant
and three flux plants are put into operation, the annually outputs of 9.5 million tons pellets and 880,000
tons active lime and light-burned dolomite could be reached in WISCO Mine, which will be a new
development for WISCO Minerals Co. Ltd. Then, a new WISCO Mine featured by diversity of products,
forest-like environment and globalization development would be presented with prosperity.
